Experience
Dr. Schwartz graduated from Franklin and Marshall College with honors, attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine and subsequently completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Schwartz has research experience at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, including isolation of digestive enzymes. He was awarded by the World Congress of Gastroenterology for additional research he performed in intestinal absorption while working at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center.
Dr. Schwartz is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Gastroenterology. He is former president of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, Minnesota/Dakota Chapter, where he remains active in fundraising and patient advocacy concerns. He is the chair of the MNGI Digestive Health (previously Minnesota Gastroenterology) Quality Committee and has collaborated with gastroenterologists across the country developing quality and outcomes measures for inflammatory bowel disease care.
Additionally, he serves on the Quality Initiatives Committee of the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) and the AGA IBDCare Pathways Taskforce. He is a member of the Crohns and Coltis Foundation of America, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterological Association.
