Dr. Van Handel received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry with honors from the University of Wisconsin. He attended medical school at the University of Wisconsin and then completed an internship and internal medicine residency at the University of Arizona. Dr. Van Handel was chief resident at the University of Arizona. He then moved to Iowa where he completed his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Iowa. He has been involved in clinical research throughout his medical training and while in practice.
