February is known as the month of love – love for your partner, love for your family and friends, but most importantly love for yourself.

Self-love comes in many forms and taking care of your body is one of them! There are so many things you can do to speak your gut’s love language and show it some love this Valentine’s Day season. The Registered Dietitians at MNGI Digestive Health offer these suggestions:

  • Try to include a variety of natural, fiber-containing foods every day like berries, oatmeal, beans, nuts and seeds, spinach, avocado, artichoke, whole grains, and more! If you are starting to add more fiber to your diet, take it slow and ensure you are drinking water along the way.
  • Do not focus on restricting foods, but rather try to incorporate a greater variety of foods. Your gut bacteria thrive when there is a wide variety of nourishment! If you feel like you are not able to tolerate a wide range of foods, talk to a registered dietitian who can help.
  • A stressed-out mind is a stressed-out gut, so take time to reduce stress in your life! You could consider meditation, low-impact movement like yoga, breathing exercises, additional rest, and building relaxation time into your schedule, and more time for things you enjoy.

Taking care of your mind and body are crucial components of self-care and self-love! Show your gut some appreciation by speaking its love language in February, and throughout the rest of the year.
