A treatment that helps restore healthy gut bacteria to prevent recurrent C. difficile infections
What is Rebyota?
Rebyota is a treatment to keep recurrent c. diff infection from coming back after you’ve already taken antibiotics. Rebyota is not an antibiotic. It is a microbiota-based treatment that’s delivered where it’s needed, the gut microbiome.
Rebyota is a liquid mix of trillions of live microbes, including bacteroides, sourced from the stool of qualified human donors. Each dose and donor have been tested and screened to address product safety. Rebyota is administered rectally in a clinic setting in just a few minutes. It is a one dose treatment with no laxatives, bowel prep, or fasting required.
What should I expect during my Rebyota appointment?
Plan to spend 45-60 minutes at the center the day of your procedure. The actual procedure takes about 15 minutes to complete.
A nurse will confirm you have not taken any antibiotics within the previous 48 hours. You will be asked to go to the bathroom to empty out as much as possible, then change into a gown and lie down on your left side for the treatment. A bag of prepared Rebyota will be attached to a small flexible tube. This tube will be inserted through the anal opening about 5 inches. The nurse will begin administering Rebyota through the tube. When the dose has been delivered, the tube will be removed. You will be asked to remain lying on your left side for approximately 15 minutes. Your nurse will let you know when you can get dressed and use the restroom.
What happens after my appointment?
You may return home or to work after the exam and resume your usual diet and activities.
Are there possible complications with Rebyota?
This treatment is very safe for you. A small percentage of patients experience stomach pain, diarrhea, bloating, gas, or nausea after treatment. In clinical studies, there were no serious adverse events related to Rebyota.
