Day of Your Procedure:

  • Do NOT take anything by mouth starting 3 hours before your procedure.
  • This includes:
    • Sips of water
    • Candy
    • Gum
    • Nicotine and tobacco:

                    3 hours before your procedure: Stop all nicotine-containing products (cigarettes, vapes, smokeless tobacco, pouches). 

                    8 hours before your procedure: Do not use chewing tobacco.

  • Do NOT use THC, Marijuana, or illicit drugs
  • Failure to follow any of these instructions may result in the cancellation of your procedure.

 

Jewelry and Piercings:

  • Please remove all head and neck jewelry before your procedure, including earrings, necklaces, nose rings, facial piercings, and oral piercings. 
  • Oral piercings that cannot be removed could lead to a cancellation of your procedure.

 

Important Information for Patients Who Take GLP-1 Agonists

If you take a medication for diabetes or weight loss known as a GLP-1 agonist, you should hold this medication according to the instructions below before your procedure. If you take these medications for diabetes, then you need to contact your primary care team or endocrinologist for glucose management instructions.

Begin a clear liquid diet per Colonoscopy prep instructions.

GLP-1 Agonists

Once or twice daily Injectable GLP-1 agonists: Hold the day before the procedure and the day of the procedure

  • Exenatide (Byetta®)
  • Liraglutide (Victoza® or Saxenda®)

Once weekly injectables: Hold 7 days before the procedure

  • Dulaglutide (Trulicity®)
  • Exenatide extended-release (Bydureon®).
  • Semaglutide injection (Ozempic® or Wegovy®
  • Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®)
  • Zepbound®

Oral Semaglutide: Hold 7 days before the procedure

  • Semaglutide tablets (Rybelsus®)

SGLT-2 Inhibitors (Invokana, Fariga, Jardiance, Steglatro): Hold for 4 days before a procedure.
