Dr. Smith grew up in central Minnesota. He completed his undergraduate degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. He subsequently completed his medical degree through the University of Minnesota. Following this, he moved to the University of Wisconsin in Madison to complete his internship and residency in the field of internal medicine. He continued his training at the University of Wisconsin in gastroenterology and hepatology. During his training he participated in multiple research projects and also completed a subspecialty certification in the management and care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Smith joined MNGI in 2024.
